12-year-old designs ship to remove plastic from ocean

A 12-year-old boy in the Indian city of Pune is working towards making the oceans plastic-free.

He claims to have designed a ship that can help clean the oceans.

Haaziq Kazi, who has presented his idea to TedEx and Ted8, said he felt the need "to do something" after watching documentaries that highlighted the impact of plastic waste on marine life.

"The fish we eat are eating plastic in the ocean, so the cycle of pollution comes to us," he said.

Kazi's machine can suck out the waste, and the ship's sensors will help segregate the plastic waste according to size.
