The death toll in the collapse of an under-construction building in southwestern Cambodia has risen to 18, as the search for survivors continued.

Officials said at least 24 people have been injured - several critically, when the seven-storey structure in the coastal town of Sihanoukville came crashing down.

Four people have been detained in connection with the incident, including the Chinese building owner, the head of the construction firm and the contractor.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has ordered an inquiry and announced US$10,000 to each family of the dead and US$ 1,250 to each injured person.
