Spice Girls to fund probe into worker abuse in Bangladesh

British pop band Spice Girls are funding an investigation into "abuse of workers" at a factory in Bangladesh, where they had placed an order for T-shirts for a charity campaign.

It comes after Guardian newspaper exposed how the women workers earned as little as 35 pence an hour and were forced to work for up to 16 hours a day.

A spokeswoman for the band said they were "deeply shocked and appalled by the claims".

The t-shirts, with the slogan '#IWannaBeASpiceGirl' on the front and 'gender justice' on the back, are set to retail for about £20.

It was aimed to raise money for Comic Relief’s fund to help “champion equality for women”.
