Philippine Senators oppose push to lower criminal age to 9

Senators in the Philippines on Tuesday condemned a lower house move to reduce the age of criminal liability from 15 to nine.

Some senators supported lowering the age "to a certain level" but said nine was too young, while others said the bill must target parents more.

The proposal, which is backed by President Rodrigo Duterte, has been condemned by activists, who said children should be protected from criminals and not held liable for things they were forced to do.
