US, Taliban agree on troop withdrawal plan: report

The US and the Taliban have "agreed" on a plan for American troops to leave Afghanistan.

According to a draft peace pact, the troops would leave within 18 months of the agreement being signed.

While no joint statement has been issued, US special peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad tweeted the talks had made "significant progress".

A trip to Afghanistan to meet government officials was also being planned, he added.

Later, a statement from Taliban also noted progress on talks but said more negotiations were required.
