A man has been detained in China for pouring a bottle of water over Baidu CEO Robin Li at a company event.

Footage showing the man emptying a bottle of water on Li while he was making a keynote address on Wednesday went viral on social media.

Police said the individual has been identified and placed under "administrative detention" for "picking quarrels and provoking trouble" after Baidu filed a formal complaint.

At this point, very little is known about the identity of the man or his motive.
