The Hunger Games, M*A*S*H and Ordinary People are just a few of Sutherland's well-known achievements throughout his impressive career.

His son, actor Kiefer Sutherland took to social media on Thursday to announce the death of his Father, one of Canada's most gifted actors.

Kiefer said his Father was "one of the most important actors in the history of film," adding that he was "never daunted by a role - good, bad or ugly".

Whilst receiving an honorary Academy Award for lifetime achievement at the Oscars in 2017 Donald said:

"I wish I could say thank you to all of the characters that I've played, thank them for using their lives to inform my life”.

His agency CAA said he died in Miami after a long illness and a private celebration of his life will be held by the family.
