Fourth seed Coco Gauff also advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Spain's Cristina Bucsa. The 2023 champion will next face fellow American Iva Jovic, who edged past the Philippines' Alexandra Eala in three sets.
Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek needed two tie-breaks to overcome Marie Bouzkova 7-6, 7-6. She will face China's Zheng Qinwen, who recovered from a set down to defeat Madison Keys.
French Open champion Mirra Andreeva reached the US Open fourth round for the first time after beating Nikola Bartunkova in straight sets.
There were several notable exits, with American ninth seed Taylor Fritz surrendering a two-set lead in a five-set defeat by Francisco Cerundolo.
Last year's women's runner-up Amanda Anisimova was knocked out by Anastasia Potapova, while Belgian Alexander Blockx upset men's fifth seed Flavio Cobolli in four sets.
