Abu Dhabi starts phasing out paper parking tickets

Paper tickets are being phased out in Abu Dhabi as the Mawaqif parking system is getting a digital makeover.

All parking meters in the emirate are being upgraded to a 5G-enabled smart system, which will generate e-tickets.

Payment can be made through cash, Mawaqif cards and credit or debit cards.

Motorists can obtain an e-ticket by following the instructions on a digital screen, including the selection of the parking category, vehicle information (plate category, number, etc.), parking duration and the payment method.

More than 1,200 smart payment machines will be installed, and the entire process will be completed before the end of this year.
