The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has successfully refloated a ship, which ran aground near Palm Deira on Thursday.

There are no reports of injuries, leaks or any effects on maritime traffic.

The ship “THORSWIND” ran aground while it was heading from Sharjah's Port Khalid to Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi.

It weighs more than 20,000 tonnes and has a width of 29.8 meters and a length of 183.5 metres.

The DMCA received news of the grounding on Thursday morning, after which urgent meetings were held with the relevant authorities in the public and private sectors to expedite its refloating, in coordination with Port Rashid.

Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the DMCA,  praised the swift action of all the teams involved in resolving the situation.

He also highlighted the efforts of the DMCA in dealing professionally with various types of marine and navigational accidents in Dubai waters, as well as the role played by the authority in strengthening the emirate's leading position as a safe and sustainable maritime hub.
