UAE-US travel pact to expedite entry process for Emiratis

WAM

In a move to simplify cross-border travel for Emiratis, the UAE and US governments have signed an agreement that will integrate the UAE into the US Global Entry Programme by October 2024.

The pact was signed between the UAE Ministry of Interior and the US Department of Homeland Security on the sidelines of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s official visit to the United States.

Global Entry is an initiative that expedites entry procedures into US ports of entry.

The UAE's Ambassador to the US, Yousef Al Otaiba emphasised that this arrangement enhances bilateral security and facilitates commerce and travel.

He added that once final consultations are completed, Emirati citizens who apply and are approved for Global Entry will enjoy expedited entry into the US at 75 airports and other locations.

The Global Entry programme streamlines the arrival process, allowing pre-screened travellers to use dedicated kiosks at US Customs and Border Protection Preclearance facilities, significantly reducing wait times and paperwork.

However, participants must still possess a valid US visa for entry.

As part of this initiative, both governments will work on developing the necessary criteria to ensure the UAE's full participation in the programme.
