As the UAE shifts to the shorter work week model, federal government entities can adopt flexible working hours and work-from-home on Fridays.
In a circular issued on Thursday, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) outlined who is eligible under the new guidelines.
They added that priority will be given to staff living farthest from their place of work, with consideration given to "any other humanitarian circumstances of employees".
Staff will also need prior approval from their line managers in coordination with their department head and HR.
The authority added that offices must have at least 70 per cent of staff on site to serve customers.
According to the new work week model, Fridays will be considered half-day (from 7:30 am to 12:00 noon), with Saturday and Sunday termed the new weekend.
