UAE, Canada discuss enhancing ties

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has discussed with his Canadian counterpart, Mélanie Joly, ways to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The two explored opportunities for cooperation in several fields, including trade, investment, and energy. 

They also looked at how to further collaborate on the environment and climate change, within the framework of the UAE’s hosting of COP28 in Dubai next month.

The two ministers also stressed the importance of working at regional and international levels in order to end extremism, tension and escalating violence in the region and protect the lives of civilians.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) also hosted the first UAE-Canada Joint Committee meeting at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, co-chaired by Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Mélanie Joly.

During the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of the inaugural meeting in fostering enhanced collaboration between the two countries to achieve shared goals and interests.

The meeting was attended by senior officials representing both the UAE and Canadian ministries.
