UAE immunisation programme gets four new updates

Parents, take note, as the UAE has announced some updates to its immunisation programme.

According to the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), the oral polio vaccine that’s given to children at the age of four months has now been suspended.

Instead, babies at this age will be given the infanrix-hexa vaccine that protects them against polio and five other diseases.

A meningitis jab for school students aged 16 to 18, has also been added to the schedule, while the doses for the pneumococcal vaccine has been changed from 4 to 3 (to be given at two, four and six months of age).

The changes are based on the latest international scientific recommendations.
