The UAE's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has revealed that around 1.5 million workers across the country are now living in labour accommodation facilities that meet the highest standards of comfort, health and safety.
In addition, over 1,800 companies are registered in the electronic Labour Accommodation System. This new national platform helps firms understand and comply with the standards and requirements for proper labour housing.
The Ministry's recent inspection campaign, conducted from May 20 to June 7, 2024, revealed 352 violations in various facilities. Issues included inadequate ventilation and air conditioning, unsafe conditions for flammable materials, and general cleanliness and sanitation concerns.
Inspectors are ensuring that accommodations meet rigorous standards for health, safety and environmental impact.
They check for adequate ventilation, sanitation services, and sufficient space for each worker, as well as compliance with civil defence regulations.
Non-compliant facilities face warnings, administrative fines and a timeframe of two weeks to one month to address the issues.
The Ministry is reminding companies with 50 or more employees to ensure they meet their obligations for providing adequate labour accommodation, as well as to register their data in the Labour Accommodation System available on the Ministry's website.
